1. What does MONOCHROMATIC mean? Based on the images below, can you guess?
2. Monochromatic paintings are built using ONE color plus BLACK and WHITE. When you add white to a color it is called a TINT. When you add BLACK, it is called a SHADE. Take a look below at how many tints and shades you can make using one color!
3. We are going to use a Cubist style for this project. (Look at Picasso's Blue Guitar above). Draw an ordinary object as large as you can to fill your page. Divide the negative space (space around the object) into 5-7 sections using a ruler. Now divide your object into 5-7 sections using a ruler.

4. Using your chosen color (+black and white), mix a variety of tints and shades. Paint each section using a different tint/shade.
* Yellow does not work well with this project. . it turns green!
* Use long strokes when applying paint to create a flat, even effect.
